National Playground Safety Week

(Xenia, OH)  National Playground Safety Week is a time to focus on children’s outdoor play environments.  As the weather warms up, many children are outside playing at the schools and at the parks.  This is an excellent time of the year for parents to take a few moments of their time to inspect the area where their children are playing.  The school and park maintenance crews do an excellent job, but they can use your help.  If equipment is broken, call the owner and let them know.  Keeping the equipment safe is the first step in reducing injury.

Parents have another responsibility while their children play.  Make sure that the playground area is designed for your child’s age and abilities.  Many children are injured on playing pieces that are designed for older children.  Supervise your children to restrict risky behavior.  Many playgrounds now have signs posted with the recommended designed age group.

To celebrate National Playground Safety Week, go out and spend the time at a playground with your children.  Playing is a very important part of growing up and Greene County has a wealth of play spaces.  Enjoy the time outside and in the process help keep our playgrounds safe.
